Sometimes a song has to wait for the right time and the right artist for it to make its full impact. I believe that Michael Peterson’s version of “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” is a perfect example of that scenario. The song was a hit for The Hollies in 1969, but there’s never been more need for its message than in the divided world we inhabit in 2025. Million selling recording artist and award-winning singer songwriter Michael Peterson delivers a career performance on his newly released version of this classic song.
“I’ve always loved this song, and I thought the time was right to release our version given the world we live in. So many thoughts were going through my head when I was recording it, a war veteran friend who endured so much and still carried on, it was that emotion that I was able to draw on that translated to the recording. I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”
Michael Peterson is known for his #1 hit “From Here to Eternity” and chart favorite “Drink, Swear, Steal & Lie,” and his version of this timeless anthem is sure to put him back at centre stage.
Peterson is joined on the record by the legendary, multi-Grammy Award–winning group The Imperials, whose rich harmonies have graced stages and recordings of Elvis Presley and many other gospel and pop icons. This stirring rendition of this song of compassion and solidarity is urgently relevant in today’s climate.
“This song has always been a beacon of brotherhood,” said Michael. “I’m releasing it now because we desperately need reminders that kindness and unity are stronger than fear and division. My hope is that when people hear it, they’ll feel inspired to lift one another up whether across the street or across the globe.”
