Local kids learn singing skills from top professionals
SING! The Toronto International Vocal Arts Festival is once again welcoming kids from 8 to 16 to learn singing while having fun with some of Canada’s top vocal teachers. I Love to SING! takes place September 13 to November 29 at Community Centre 55, 97 Main Street, Toronto on select Saturdays from 11 am to 12:45 pm. The program runs in Brampton at David Suzuki Secondary School, 45 Daviselm Drive, and in Mississauga at Malton Youth Hub, 3545 Morning Star Drive. Now in its 3rd year, I Love to SING! has welcomed kids to regular free sessions, including providing two performance opportunities in the main SING! festival event at Kew Gardens in May and at Mississauga City Hall. The full schedule and registration are at https://singtoronto.com/i-love-to-sing
This innovative program gives every young person a forum to express themselves, learn the art of melody, harmony, blending voices, and stage and performance technique. Several outstanding vocal professionals, including Gospel recording artists Latoya Hall Downer and renowned singers Joseph Angelo and Allison Angelo lead the interactive sessions. The program is a creative outlet for youth to express their experience through music while having fun.
The mentorship provided by the program leaders who are role models in the community demonstrates to participants the possibilities of a music career path. Through the clinics, participants learn to work with others from different spaces and backgrounds, learn to respect each other as individuals, and grow their artistry. The workshops take place in a safe space to meet other liked-minded youth who love the power of singing and music.
Parents and students are embracing the program. “Thank you for such an incredible opportunity for the kids. Music is a gift and it’s amazing to see what it does to children’s development.” Tania (parent of participant).
“The I Love to SING! program is super fun! It’s taught me about how to protect my voice, how to sing confidently, and how to sing with technique!” Charlie (participant)
The main SING! Toronto festival runs from May 23 through June 1, 2026 primarily in downtown Toronto. SING! Edmonton will take place March 9 – 15, 2026. SING! Vancouver will be on June 6, 2026.
